I went to different locations to try on the different market areas, and its consumers. I spotted the most common trend of the day, which is the leggings, oversized shirts for women, checkered tops/dresses, and shorts for men, shirts with the map of the Philippines, and cropped jeans/pants for men.
Luckily I spotted this young girl hanging out with her girlfriends. Her name is Jen, she's wearing an oversized shirt from Top shop, leggings and stilettos. The fashion leadership that applies to it was the trickle-up theory, for the oversized shirt and leggings started as a neccessity during the renaissance period, then was adopted by the hunters, cowboys, then later on was used in the aerobics and because of the influence of the movie Flash dance, it was then adopted as a street wear. Her total outfit is in the early majority stage. Usually, all kinds of consumerwould wear leggings, compared to the oversized shirt.
As I went on, and saw that majority of the crowd, were in the same trend, and I couldn't spot anything different, I decided to go with the trend which I've seen a lot for the entire day and mostly street wear.
She's one of those wearing checkered that day. So I approached her, she is wearing shorts from Folded and Hung, and a pair of Glads.
For checkered, I think the fashion leadership that applies to it is the trickle-across and for the trend cycle I think it is in the early majority stage.
In the Art gallery in SM Megamall, I spotted another girl wearing a checkered top and leggings plus a native shoulder bag, and a pair of Havaianas.
Brief History/Background:
During the 14th and 16th century it was worn by both men and women for warmth and protection throughout the centuries. Patricia Field, a fashion designer, claimed that she invented the modern leggings for women in the late 1970s. It was not until the fitness aerobics craze in the early 1980s that leggings became fashionable as gym-styled street wear for women. Wearing black leggings under long, often diaphanous, skirts was part of a general fashion trend of wearing gym or dance clothes as street wear that evolved with the fitness craze and the influence of the movie Flashdance and the long running Broadway show A Chorus line. A more recent trend has been the wearing of black leggings with miniskirts. By the early 1990s, leggings were actually outselling jeans in many parts of the United States. It was very common to see leggings worn with long oversized t-shirts, oversized sweatshirts or oversized sweaters, slouch socks and Keds. Fashion turned against leggings in the late 1990s. In 2005, leggings made a "comeback" into high fashion, particularly in indie culture, with capri-length leggings being worn with mini skirts and dresses. Men have also begun to wear leggings more frequently in recent years as long underwear, and for more casual physical activities such as walking, hiking, gardening, replacing the old standby, sweatpants. Leggings are also worn as a fashion trend by men on the London elcetro-music scene. At the Marni Men's show during the fall 2007 Fashion Week, outfits with leggings designed solely for men were introduced. Jeggings are a recent variant of leggings. They are leggings that take certain attributes from jeans, such as colour and style and particularly a coloured seam down the side, thus a mixture of the two and hence the adoption of the name "Jeggings".

On the other hand, the oversized shirts/polo/boyfriend's shirt came along. That girl borrows from the boys- literally. As to checkered, it is a fabric trend direction for summer 2010, a trend which is often used for spring and summer throughout the centuries.
